Bush expedition Maasai

Bush expedition Maasai Kenya

  • 4-10 December, 2020, other dates possible

In the Loita Hills Kenya we are invited by Sangali, the Maasai chief of this area. He gathered a team of Maasai elders and warriors to take us on a bush expedition through the world famous Loita Hills, away from the modern world. You will travel like a warrior through the African wildernis, while you are in capable and warm hands, cared for by the Maasai. You will learn about and get first-hand experience on this ancient culture, their traditions and age-old customs. From a comfortae basecamp we leave the scene to go back to basics and learn how to survive and live in the wild. You will learn skills like fire making, spear throwing and mastering the bow and arrow. The warriors will be on the watch for wildlife and teach us about their tracks and signs and tell us stories of their living amongst the animals. Our carefully prepared dinners on open fire will be substituted by food we find in the bush, while we also learn about their medicinal purposes. We will enjoy campfires where we sing, dance, jump and sometimes pray to mother nature and the universe, as is Maasai custom. Next to the bushcraft and survival lessons we walk about 10-15 km a day through the bush with the Maasai. Therefore you should have an average fitness, preferably being able to carry your own backpack with tent (provided) and sleeping gear. In case of any doubts, tell me, i’m sure I can arrange something for you. I am also happy to help you extend your stay for a safari in the world reknown Maasai Mara or a climb of mount Kenya. 4-10 december 2020 – €1299,- per person. Other dates and contents are also possible, contact me for advise - 6 nights accomodation in tents - 3 meals a day - transport on site - English speaking guides, Maasai elders and Maasai warriors Not included: international flights to and from Nairobi, Kenyan visa ($50), personal travel insurance, alcoholic beverages in basecamp and tips. Come get inspired by this ancient culture!

"I've been on many adventures with Tamar, including Japan and Mongolia, all of which have been trips of a lifetime. What was most striking in Kenya though, was the connection with the Maasai warriors and their chief. In no time we were one. Hiking the savannah, learning bush skills and spotting wild animals, is even more spectacular when you are guided by a bunch of young warriors, that are unlike any humans I have ever met. So connected to nature, themselves and each other, incredibly strong and manly but also soft and caring. I was impressed with their ability to find fun in even the most dangerous or mundane task. The scenery in this part of the world is stunning, the care overwhelming and the lessons learned unimaginable."
